They might also serve well in a first grade setting. If the resources that accompany these lessons involve reading/writing that is too difficult for your students, you may choose to use them only for your mini-lesson or adapt the idea to suit the needs of your students. The lessons should also be accompanied by additional phonics instruction, word study and writing throughout the day. To be truly effective, these mini-lessons should be followed by a short time of independent reading.
